Scanning

How to use the scanner at the Gustavus Public Library

Scanning Introduction

You can use the library's Brother multi-function machine to convert paper documents and pictures to electronic files. Then you can save, edit, print, and e-mail the files. There are many ways to use the scanner and the extensive software on the library's public-use computers. The following instructions have been tested and they are one suggested way to get some specific tasks done.

Scan the document

  1. Place the original on the multi-function machine as follows:
    • If the original consists of paper that can go through the feeder, place it in the sheet feeder at the top of the machine, face up.
    • If the original is a book or other odd-sized or shaped object, lift the scanner lid and place the original face-down on the glass and close the cover.
  2. On the multi-function machine, press the Scanner button.
  3. On the lighted display, touch network as the destination for your scan.
  4. On the lighted display, touch profile patron (this sets the folder the scan goes to).
  5. Select the size of the scan. Higher means higher resolution (quality) and larger file size.
  6. Optionally, review and select other options for resolution, file format, and duplex scanning.
  7. Press either start button (color or black). The document will be scanned and stored in the scans folder (the printer will beep when the scan is finished).
  8. Repeat steps 4-5 for additional originals if needed.
  9. Remove your original(s) and go to any library computer to work with your scan.

Work with scanned document

From any library computer
