2025 City of Gustavus Election Results

The Official Certified Election Results for the 2025 City of Gustavus General Election have been posted!! The winners of the seat have been notified via email. For the individual that won two seats, will only be able to accept one seat. Any seat that is not accepted with be treated as an opening that will be filled by appointment until the October 2026 election. If you have questions email them to clerk@gustavus-ak.gov

Preliminary Election results have been posted (11:40pm on 10-07-2025). These are subject to change until the election is certified on Friday, 10-10-2025 at the Election Review Committee meeting at 6pm at City Hall. The city council sits as our election review committee and will canvas the election. They will verify the information from election day as well all absentee ballots, question ballots, defective ballots, and special needs ballots will be accounted for and counted. The election maybe be contested see CoG 5.60.010 - 5.60.060 for more information. 

You might notice that seat B only has last line filled out. That's because there were no write-in candidates that had 5 or more votes. After the final counts on Friday the individual with the most votes will win that seat. (See CoG 5.30.110). 

Write-in candidates who win their seats will be notified after the election is certified on Friday. They may remove their name from that office by filing a written notice with the city clerk no later than 5 days after being notified. (See CoG5.10.110) 

If the candidate who wins the seat plans to accept they will be sworn in on Monday 10-10-2025 at the City Council General Meeting located at City Hall at 7pm. If the candidate is unable to make that meeting they will work directly with the clerk to schedule it. 

Please also note on Part 3: Accounting of Ballots on the preliminary results it reads "Total absentee In-person/mail ballots cast" is  43 ballots. This is the total number of absentee ballots that were mailed and voted in-person. This number will most likely change on the final results after we know how many of our absentee by mail ballots were not returned. The mail ballots have to be postmarked 10-07-2025 and received by the city by 10-10-2025 prior to the Election Review Committee Meeting.  This is also why the "Total absentee by mail ballots not returned" is currently unavailable at this time. It again will be updated once the election is certified.
